Last week
saw the end of the first year Weekly Winter Sport at Rawhiti. We had 3 football teams, 3 netball teams, 2
rugby teams and a hockey team involved.
For the first time this year we also had a Kiorahi team, 3 table
tennis teams and a group of students attending the gardening club. Every Friday over the previous ten weeks we
have travelled to Rawhiti to compete against teams from South New Brighton,
Rawhiti, New Brighton Catholic, Queenspark and Marshland schools.
The competition, organised by Hannah
and her team at Rawhiti Community Sports Inc. culminated on Friday with 4
Parkview teams competing in playoffs for first and second. Congratulations to our Year 5/6 Parkview
Panthers rugby team, who won their competition, while the Year 7/8 Parkview
Patriots football team carried on their impressive form in the Winter Tournament
by winning their competition.
Congratulations also the Parkview Pride Kiorahi team and the Year 7/8
netball Parkview Passion team for making the finals.
Thanks to the New Brighton Community
Garden and its members, Youth Alive Trust, New Brighton Rugby club and others
for letting us use their facilities over the season.
A huge thanks to Jasper van der Meer and
Liam Campfens for helping manage our football teams, and to Sophia Chapman
and Katarina HariHari for assisting with the Senior Netball team. Thanks too to Paul Gardiner for his expertise in running the lunch-time practices for our rugby teams and also managing the teams on Fridays at Rawhiti. The Grad. School student teachers also took
teams for us last term. Thanks too to the staff who gave up break times for
team practices. The students really
appreciated the extra effort you all went to for their teams.
